Catnip
Known in Europe as Catmint, Catnip is a perennial whose scented clumps are loved by cats, on which it has an extraordinary effect, first exciting and then calming them. It is sown directly into position in spring. Catnip is not just for your feline friends, as its tender shoots can also be used in mixed salads, and the leaves can be used to flavor meat. It is also considered by many to be a medicinal plant and its infusion is reputed to have a relaxing effect on us two legged-types.
